NEWS: NIGERIAN STUDENT JAILED OVER FALSE RAPE CLAIM MADE IN ORDER TO GET EXTENSION ON COURSEWORK.

A student falsely claimed a cleaner raped her – so she could get an extension on her university coursework. Temitope Adenugba, 24, was struggling to meet a deadline while studying at Oxford Brookes University last year. She phoned police to tell them she had been abused as a child, before complaining she had also been subjected to a serious sexual assault as she slept in her college digs.

When officers went to see her at her halls of residence to take a statement, Adenugba pointed at cleaner Kunle Ogunmola and said: ‘Can’t talk here, that’s the man who raped me.’ Mr Ogunmola was arrested, before a subsequent police investigation exposed Adenugba’s catalogue of lies.

Last night, her victim said she had put him through a ‘year of hell’. Mr Ogunmola said she had destroyed ‘my reputation, my confidence and my life’. Adenugba concoted the story in an attempt to get an extension on her end-of-term coursework, the court heard. Sentencing her to 18 months in jail at Oxford Crown Court, Recorder Rabinder Singh QC attacked Adenugba’s ‘malicious allegations’. He added: ‘ It’s extremely easy to make an allegation of rape when there’s no foundation whatsoever. It’s likely to have the perverse impact of guilty men walking free.’

The court heard that police attended Clive Booth Halls of residence, Oxford on May 21 last year after Adenugba reported historic abuse against her as a child. Officers interviewed her but were stunned when she told them Mr Ogunmola had used a key to get into her room on April 13 and raped her.

A full police investigation was launched and the cleaner was quizzed and later arrested. Detectives, however, found any keys taken by Mr Ogunmola had been returned by April 12 and he would not have had access to her room at any time.

Adenugba also claimed her victim had been harassing her with phone calls, but analysis of mobile phones showed this was a lie. Mr Walsh added that Adenugba, who admitted perverting the course of justice, had made a fictitious rape complaint against a previous partner in October 2006. Walter Scott, mitigating, said his client had made the claim against Mr Ogunmola after an earlier false allegation of harassment against the same man ‘didn’t have the desired effect of extending her time to do her coursework’.

He added: ‘She was not seeking to directly attack the victim, he was chosen rather arbitrarily.’ Last night Mr Ogunmola, 47, said he had only met the student twice before she made her accusations. He said on the first occasion she had pleaded with him to lend her some money as she desperately needed to get home to see her family in London. The devout Christian lent her £20 – all the money he had.

He said: ‘I was absolutely devastated when I was told she had accused me of being a rapist. I decided to help her because she reminded me of my daughter, who is the same age and is also at university. ‘But in return she destroyed my reputation, my confidence and my life. I’m still trying to convince my wife that I’m innocent and I don’t know if I can ever repair the damage she has done.’

He added he had only met the student twice and did not even know her name before the police told him. ‘I felt freedom for the first time when she was convicted. I hope it will teach her a lesson and stop other people like her doing what she did. She is a very devious girl, but I am a Christian and I forgive her for what she did.

INTERVIEWS: G.Y.E PRESENTS JAMES ‘MAVRIK’ OSAGIE.

So basically we at G.Y.E had an interview a very special person today, most of you might know him already but to those who dont, I’m certain you’ve seen the Dj Xclusive Rebirth series, The Falz ‘Transform Ya’ video and the ShoFro ‘Ko eazy’ video, obviously those videos didnt just magically appear on your screen, there was one man behind all of them, yes just one man behind all those amazing videos and he goes by the name of Idahosa James Osagie, I must say this guy is a very talented individual, with no formal training whatsoever, he produced all those videos and Im certain he’s gonna blow up pretty soon, I think thats enough uintroduction, we at Gidi’s Young Enterprise(G.Y.E) present to you James Mavrik Osagie.

1.WHO IS JAMES MAVRIK OSAGIE?

Lol! That question has 2 answers to be honest. Idahosa James Osagie is the son of a Bishop, first born of 3 sons, proud uncle to the most beautiful niece in the world and possibly the realest dude you’ll meet. MäVrik is the “alter ego”. He isn’t scared of anyone, which sometimes gets him into trouble. Some people say he’s a bit cocky, in a good way. He’s a mad man too. Lol. MäVrik is the entertainer, Idahosa James Osagie is the quiet one. Lol.

2.CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND(EDUCATIONAL,FAMILY)?

I am the first child of Bishop & Pastor Mrs. Lawrence Osagie. I have been blessed with 2 younger, handsome brothers. I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. I attended high school there before moving out here in 2005. I have various degrees (just like most Naija graduates lol) which are as follows: Diploma in Law, Certificate in Sound Engineering & Information Technology. I am currently back in uni studying Entertainment Technology just to give me more insight into what my craft is.

3.VIDEOGRAPHY IS SOMETHING THAT IS NOT SO COMMON IN NIGERIA, WHEN AND HOW DID YOU PICK IT UP?

Lol. I have always been a fan of filmmaking. I was exposed to it at a very early age. In my father’s church, we always had cameramen covering every sermon and that always distracted me from hearing the sermon (confession…lol). And at one point, I was opportuned to be on the set of a Nollywood movie that was never successful lol (Title: Better Late Than Never). On the set, my eyes got opened to the wonderful world of videography. I saw lights, cameras, sound systems, actors, actresses, make-up artists, etc and I knew at that tender age of 9 that film/video production was what I really wanted to do.

4. DID YOU UNDERGO ANY FORMAL TRAINING WHATSOEVER OR ITS JUST A GOD GIVEN TALENT?

It’s definitely a God-given talent. I never went to school to study video production. It’s a gift that I finessed right from the very first day I laid my tiny hands on “Windows Movie Maker”. Lol. But now that things are getting pretty serious, I felt it was time to know more than what I currently know, hence why I went back to school.

5.HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR STUDIES AND VIDEO/FILM MAKING CAREER TOGETHER?

To be honest, I don’t know how to answer this question Bunmi. Lol. I think it’s the work ethic gene I got from my father. He’s my inspiration when it comes to getting work done without sleep or rest (which sometimes comes back to bite me health wise lol). But no complaints. Lol.

6.WHAT DOES MAVRIK STAND FOR?

The name “MäVrik” came from the word “Maverick” which was my nickname. A maverick is one that cannot be “branded”. I’m always independent when it comes to my actions and I hardly “play by the rules”, especially when it comes to my craft. This gives room fro creativity in my work. :-)

7.WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FOR VIDEOS?

Inspiration comes from everywhere. I take inspiration from other filmmakers’ works and I put my twist to them or I might hear a song and be inspired by the words or feeling I get from them, or hell, I can look at you and make a video based on what I get from you. Lol.

8.ARE YOU A ONE MAN COMPANY?

I started out as a one-man-band-man. But I’m now in the process of adding some pretty interesting players that take the brand to a higher level. Shout out to my PR and dawg for life Ayo Oludoyi a.k.a “AY Stunna”. This guy has helped me big time. I got too much love and respect for this guy. Salute!

9.DO YOU INTEND ON GOING INTO FILM MAKING?

As a matter of fact I do intend on going into it. I started a project called “Day Before Yesterday”, which is a short film, but unfortunately had to put the pause on it due to circumstances beyond my control. But I’ll resume work on it when all is well by His Grace. :-)

10.SO FAR, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST MOMENT IN THE INDUSTRY YOU’RE IN?

My first paid gig back in 2007 is the greatest moment for me. That was me coming out of my comfort zone. That was MäVrik being born. That was me believing in my craft so much that the current owner of Maya Club hired me to cover his wedding! God is good! Lol. Everytime I think about it, the hairs on the back of my neck rise because I remember how friggin’ scared I was back then.

11.OUT OF ALL THE VIDEO’S YOU’VE MADE WHICH WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVORITE?

Mehn, that’s a tough one. Lol. It’s like me answering which of my babies do I love the best? Lol. I love and cherish all my videos equally to be honest. Lol.

12.HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO SHOOT/ EDIT A VIDEO/MOVIE?

It depends on what project it is. It ranges from the space of hours to weeks/months.

13 NOW WE’RE ABOUT TO GET A BIT PERSONAL, ARE YOU IN A RELATIONSHIP? IF SO, HOW LONG? IF NOT, WHY?

Lol! *blush* I am currently single as a slice of cheese *dry joke*. Why am I single? Lol. I think it’s because I’m career focused at the moment. I am searching though so you never know, Idahosa James Osagie might find a woman soon. Lol.

14.OTHER THAN FILM/VIDEO MAKING DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER AREASE OF INTEREST?

Ofcourse. I love music, sometimes I dabble into making it (haven’t done that in a while though). I might sound geeky by saying this but I love reading technology based magazines. Lol. Hey, I need to keep up with the 21st century gadgets, especially in my craft. :-)

15.HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING THE MAN BEHIND THE CAMERA, DO YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YOU ARENT GETTING ENOUGH RECOGNITION?

It feels fantastic being the man behind the camera! You get to call the shots. Lol. As for “getting enough recognition” as a director, I’m not too bothered about that to be honest. As long as people like my work, I’m content with that. They don’t have to know the guy behind the camera. Lol.

16 WHAT FILM MAKERS/DIRECTORS DO YOU LOOK UP TO IN NIGERIA AND BEYOND?

In Nigeria, I only look at material by Clarence Peters, Bobby Boulders, Zeb Ejiro, Amaka Igwe, AK One & DJ Tee.
International wise, I look at works by Steven Spielberg, Gary F. Gray, Little X, Spiff TV, Hype Williams, Jerry Bruckheimer, and works by upcoming film directors/companies (them plenty on top Youtube lol)

17.DO YOU INTEND ON GOING INTO FILM MAKING/DIRECTING FULL TIME?

Definitely. That’s the life for me.

18.WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

In the next 10 years, I see myself on a chair with the label “DIRECTOR” behind it, and me saying, “Okay we got tape rolling…and, ACTION!” Lol.

19.THERE ARE A COUPLE OF DIRECTORS/FILM MAKERS IN NIGERIA AT THE MOMENT,WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT?

What makes me stand out from every competition out there in Naija is my “ever advancing look” in my videos. Not one of my videos are the same, but with my competition, you tend to see the same concepts being repeated. Whether it’s lighting, editing, etc. I tend to play with my videos rather than work on them. ;-) lol.

20. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NIGERIAN FILM/VIDEO INDUSTRY IS LACKING AND CAN FILL THE VOID?

The Nigerian Film Industry lacks patience. They got the finances no doubt. The talent is there. The market is there. But the patience to really put a nicely edited film together is what they lack. Hence, why every week in Nigeria, a new movie is released. If somebody can sit down to carefully construct a proper Nigerian film, get a good team together, hire good actors (no need to be celebs), and invest time in making it close to perfect, I believe that film will make it to the “Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film” category at the Oscars. Take my word.

21. IS THERE A MAVRICK PRODUCTION COMING ANYTIME SOON THAT WE SHOULD BE LOOKING FORWARD TO?There is always something from MäVrik Films to look forward to. I won’t tell you what the next one is. Just keep watching. Something is in the works at the moment ;-) lol.

22. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER UPCOMING ARTISTES?

Never think an idea is too stupid or daft. That will only limit your full potential. Go for it, and if it doesn’t work go for the next idea. One of them is bound to work. Trust me ;-) lol.

23.ANY LAST WORDS FOR YOUR FANS?

I don’t call them fans, I call them friends. Lol. I want to say a BIG THANK YOU for the love, the support and the prayers. Just reading your comments alone on every video I’ve directed brings smiles and sometimes tears of joy to my eyes. I will always love each and every one of you. God bless you all. And for the ones that hate, I love una too. Lol.

Shout out to GidiNoize for this! You guys friggin’ rock!
I stay loyal to una government! Ultra Salute to y’all!
God bless!

BEAUTY: GO ON…BE A MINX.

If you’re not yet in the know about Minx nails, may I suggest you awaken from your slumber. It’s the newest nail wonder in the world of manicure and pedicure, ranging from leopard print designs, lumberjack patterns to fierce metallic shades a la’ Beyonce’s 2010 Grammy red carpet appearance.

More celebrity fans include; Solange Knowles,

Rihanna,

Fergie….

Lady Gaga, Eve, Blake Lively, Mariah Carey, Angela Simmons, Keri Hilson…..and the list goes on.

Minx nails last for approximately 10 days and are THE ultimate glamour accessory. It’s the best way to complete an outfit. Style is not just about clothes or jewellery as nothing makes an outfit scream louder and look more polished that a dazzling manicure. I discovered minx nails a while back in a little manicure shop, in complete awe of this new trend I opted for metallic silver and watched as my manicurist used UV lights to stick on layers of metallic silver on each finger. I shall not tell a lie, the heat from the UV light hurt a teeny weeny bit. But who cares right? Beauty is pain, so 10 days later I was back, and honey who wouldn’t? After receiving compliments and attention from complete strangers, I needed another minx fix. Dare I say it’s one of the best ways to express yourself, feeling broody I opted for the blackest of all black shades with just a hint of silver, perhaps I was beginning to live vicariously through the hundreds of patterns that minx nails had to offer. One thing is for sure, nothing screams individualism as much as minx nails. This week may I suggest you get your minx on in bright metallic shades as its summer and nothing screams happiness and summery shades better than neon.

I’m loving these hello kitty metallic shade for summer.

So I dare you…. Go on be a minx ;)
