We at GidiNoize are extremely impressed with the growth of the Fashion Industry in Nigeria, I must say its come a long way since the typical ‘Iro & buba’ days, the creativity of designers today is impecable.

Today I stumbled on a new line called Viv La Resistance and I was extrememely impressed by their wonderful debut collection(The Art Of Fashion In War).

This collection is made of pieces of various colours and fabrics ranging from damask to lace and even denim!!!! Inspired by Medieval Armours, etc. Mo Alatise delivers extremely well and definitely picked good models, one of which is Nigeria’s 2009 Elite Model Look winner, Annette Begg.

STYLE: THE ESSENCE OF STYLE.

Fashion and style are two separate things; style is derived from fashion, basically. Style is all about individuality; everybody may be wearing this, but how do you make it blend with your outfit? When people complement your dressing, do they go “nice shoes” or “your outfit is really nice” ?

I’m a firm believer in traditionalist men’s dressing; with a modern edge of course. And I believe modern men’s fashion is beginning to lose its flavor of masculinity. For instance, I never thought the word ‘plunging’ would ever apply to men’s clothing.

A lot of people seem to have style these days; but most of it is really just runway and pop culture fashion re-done. Observe all the boys running around in coloured skinny jeans, nerd glasses , high tops and backpacks….touché.

Style should be your thing; a truly stylish guy immediately stands out from the crowd wherever he is. Great style sets you apart from others.

Style is also not to everyone’s taste; most guys with great style are automatically labeled gay, just because they put their clothes together in a distinctive manner……..call it hating, really.lol.

Style and being ‘well dressed’ are Not the same thing; wearing fitted clothing doesn’t automatically make you stylish, it’s the way you wear the clothing that  does. For example, adding that one distinctive piece to your outfit that transforms it dramatically.

Style is not about labels; the guy wearing a fitted blazer obtained from a thrift store and the guy wearing an Armani jacket two sizes too big; who would look better? Obviously?

Style is simply about being different; taking ‘general’ fashion and finding what works for you. That, in itself is the very essence of style: efficiently communicating your personality through your clothes.
