POLITICS: DIMEJI BANKOLE FIGHTS GBENGA DANIEL IN OTA.

The rivalry between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, and governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, yesterday, led to a brawl during the commissioning of the overhead bridge constructed by the federal government in Ota, Ogun State.

The event had kicked off before the arrival of the Speaker, and Mr Daniel, who came with a large entourage, had delivered a speech critical of the Speaker.

The governor said Mr. Bankole was erroneously claiming credit for the federal government project.

“Tell the Speaker, to stop claiming responsibility for the construction,” Mr Daniel said. “The project was started by the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, and we want to thank him.”

He advised that the Speaker should focus on achieving something for the state before his tenure ends.

“Tell my junior brother, the Speaker, that he should do something before his tenure lapses; we all have less than few months to leave office,” he said.

The road project was started about ten years ago by the government of Mr Obasanjo but was abandoned half way. Last year, during a visit to the town, Mr Bankole campaigned for work to be completed on the project.

When invited for yesterday’s commissioning by the Minister of Works, Sanusi Daggash, Mr. Bankole is said to have explained that he would he available only after the session of the House in Abuja.

However, as the Speaker arrived the venue of the occasion, Mr Daniel quickly cut short his speech and cut the tape to commission the project. The governor then ushered Mr. Daggash, the works minister, and other officials to a bus, marking the end of the event.

Angry Speaker

Sensing mischief, the Speaker moved to confront the governor and minister, who were already in the bus. He asked an aide to call out Mr Daggash but the messenger returned to say the minister would not come because he was speaking with the governor.

Visibly angry, Mr Bankole forced his way onto the bus. Onlookers could not get a clear view of what transpired between the Speaker and governor but Mr Bankole was later seen attempting to stop the driver from moving the bus. He was restrained by the vehicle’s occupants. The governor and his entourage left after Mr. Bankole got off the bus.

As the confusion progressed, security aides to both parties created more panic. The charged atmosphere forced many people to run for safety.

Among those who fled was the traditional ruler of Ota town, Alani Oloyede. The royal father had to tuck in his flowing agbada, as he fled the scene followed by other chiefs.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Bankole’s spokesperson, Kayode Odunaro, later told journalists that, in the bus, Mr. Bankole queried why the Minister abandoned him after inviting him to the ceremony.

“Why did the Minister allow the commissioning to take place, knowing that the Speaker, who had rushed down from Abuja because of the ceremony was around,” he said.

“I think it is a great disservice to the House of Representatives which had ensured that the N5 billion extra budget was passed to revive the already abandoned project and ensure that it was completed.”

POLITICS: CHARLES SOLUDO SENT THUGS TO DIRUPT MY SISTERS BURIAL SAYS DORA AKUNYILI.

Apparently there was some palava at Dora Akunyili’s Sister’s burial in Anambra and Dora has released a statement saying-

I came down to my village to join my family, relations and well wishers to pay my last respect to my late sister Gloria but unknown to me, my family and invited guests, a large number of thugs loyal to Prof. Charles Soludo were carefully organized to disrupt my participation in my sister’s burial ceremony. I have never seen the number of thugs I saw on Friday in any event. The thugs were also instructed to embarrass my invited guests. As you may be aware, Prof. Charles Soludo is marrying my late elder sister’s daughter Nonye. So we are in-laws, but since he lost the last gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Prof. Soludo has singled me out as the source of his failure to win the election, and he convinced my sister to believe that I was the cause of his failure. All efforts by people to make him understand that I alone cannot make him Governor have failed. So he brought that anger, grudge and frustration to the burial of his mother in-law who is also my elder sister. All arrangements made by me and my other siblings to receive guests at Isuofia, where my late sister was residing (which is also Soludo’s village) were vandalized by Soludo’s hired thugs. They followed this up with text messages of blackmail to my guests, friends and well wishers. When the environment in Isuofia became too insecure, tense and hostile, I quietly relocated to my father’s compound at Nanka which is few kilometres away just to avoid trouble. But Soludo’s thugs also trailed us to my own village Nanka to commence trouble but the security agents quietly dismissed them.

I want to remark that my late sister Gloria was a very peaceful, Godly and well brought up woman. While she was alive, I enjoyed her love and friendship as a sister no matter what Soludo and his hired thugs think. Because of this, even in death, I will do nothing to dishonour her because what Soludo and his thugs has done is to dishonour her but God has taken control. I therefore wish to thank all my invited guest for their understanding and the church for their prayers and co-operation.

POLITICS: WHY I WILL VOTE DELE MOMODU FOR PRESIDENT COME 2011.

So when I first heard about Dele Momodu going for President I laughed and did not take it seriously but today I read an interview he did and it made me realise that theres more to Dele Momodu than just Ovation.Dele Momodu actually deserves a chance to be President.

The interview basically showed me that Dele Momodu has been involved directly/indirectly with politics for a very long time.Did you know Dele Momodu was a refugee at a point during Abacha’s precidency cause he was at risk being in Nigeria?Did you know Dele Momodu worked for Chief MKO Abiola at a point? I didnt know all of this but now I do and thats why I support Dele Momodu and I believe he should be President come 2011.

We Nigerians have been complaining for years about our leadership for years now but how can we expect a different result when we keep doing the same old thing.I think its time we tried something new, something fresh, something different so for once we can have a different result.VOTE DELE MOMODU FOR PRESIDENT 2011 and experience CHANGE!

Dont worry Im not getting paid for this, Im just a Nigerian like you who’s sick and tired of being ruled by uneducated, stingy, old men!

Im also here to share with you a couple of pictures which I found really interesting and a video clip which shows 24 hours in Dele Momodu’s life, learnt a lot from it and I hope you do too, Hardwork really does pay off.

POLITICS- GOODLUCK JONATHAN SUSPENDS SUPER EAGLES FROM FOOTBALL EVENTS FOR NEXT 2 YEARS.

It has been reported  that President  Goodluck Jonathan in his infinite wisdom  has decided to withdraw Nigeria from all football competitions for the next two years. His reason for doing so is the shameful performance of the Super Eagles during the ongoing FIFA 2010 World cup in South African. The members of the Super Eagles deserve all the whipping they are getting for their woeful performance in South African but all those who had eyes saw the disaster coming. They saw it because they knew that you cannot ask 35 years old strikers or defenders claiming to be 27 years to put up any credible performance in a tournament like the World Cup where fitness and youth are imperatives. True there are some players like Sabastian Veron who are 35 years old and performing at the World Cup. But there are 22 other younger players in the team.

As shameful and irresponsible as the performance of the Super Eagles in South Africa is, the president’s decision is knee-jerk and shocking to say to say the least.  The reaction it is knee –jerk is because the performance of the Super Eagles team is a symptom and reflection of the administrative problems bedeviling Nigeria as a whole. Their performance reflects the performance of the entire country. Their performance is not the problem. The problem is the same group of irresponsible and corrupt-beyond-redemption officials that have presided over the decay in the country’s football for years without being held accountable. Despite failure after failure of the national team, these officials continue to be untouchables. When will the president summon the courage to arrest and prosecute members of the NFF for corruption? Amos Adamu had the guts to criticize the performance of the team when he became a billionaire by looting the coffers of the soccer body. Taiwo Ogunjobi and others have been around forever, yet the president does not see anything wrong with that.  True, FIFA does not allow political interference in football administration but FIFA does not prevent the prosecution of corrupt football officials.

The shocking part of the decision is that the person making this decision is the president.  This is the same president who brought 140 people to Canada for a needless jamboree only a few days ago. A president who is presiding over an oil producing country that is wallowing in darkness. A president who does not have the courage to arrest and prosecute his friends and political godfathers who have been indicted for accepting bribes from Halliburton and Siemens. A president who is presiding over a country where armed robbers and kidnapers have taking over Aba and Umuahia.  A president who does not have the guts to confront the monumental corruption in NFF which has led to the dismal performance of the national soccer team.  A president who is presiding over a country in which the National Assembly dominated by members of his party are basically looting the treasury through dubious constituency allowances. In light of his failures, will the president withdraw himself from office for two years as he has done to the Super Eagles? If there is a World Cup for good governance, would Goodluck Jonathan make the tenth eleven? Your guess is as good as mine.

All Nigerians, including the president know where our soccer problems are coming from but 150 million people are involved in what I call the greatest conspiracy on earth – the conspiracy to conceal the true age of our players.  Our country is suffering because the country is not producing young talents period. We do not have soccer fields anymore because they have been converted by the rich. Secondary school competitions where young talents were previously discovered do not exist anymore. Where do we then expect young talents to come from? When Adokie Amasiemeka reported with proof that the captain of the 2009 Under-17 team played for Sharks of Port-Harcourt in 2002 as an 18 year old, what did the then vice-president say?  Macauley Chrisantus , the boy-man who emerged the highest goal scorer in the 2007 Under-17 tournament in Japan a few years ago  and ended up signing for  Hamburg FC in Germany has been traded or loaned several times that nobody knows where he is now. Some of his “age mates” in that competition have blossomed and are playing in the ongoing World-cup. Why did Chrisantus not blossom after Japan 2007? Why did Opabunmi not blossom after Trinidad and Tobago 2001? Why did Phillip Osondu not blossom after Canada 1987? Dimeji Lawal, a member of Nigeria’s Under-17 team that participated in Canada 1987, wrote his West African Examination Council exam in 1982 at prospect High School, Aba-Nla and did his “A” levels at Ibadan Grammar School and graduating in 1984. Yet, he played for the Under-16 team in 1987. Victor Ikpeba was a student of Yaba College of Technology when he played for the under-17 team in 1989. Yakubu Aiyegbeni, our main striker to the ongoing world Cup in South Africa had completed his West African School Certificate and was working with Okomu Oil in Edo State as a painter when he was discovered by Coach Izilien in 1996 (http://allafrica.com/stories/200401050704.html) and this Yakubu is now 27 years old in 2010. Maybe he was 13 years old in 1996 but the law in Nigeria does not allow the employment of minors.

I do not know who gave the president the advice to withdraw the super Eagles from international competitions for two years. Wherever the decision came from, he must rescind that decision immediately before FIFA slams a heavier suspension on the country for political interference.  Nigeria is a very funny country. Every time something goes wrong, the knee-jerk thing to do is to “ban it” as long as the rich are not affected.  When Okada is used for robberies the easiest solution is to ban Okada, a mode of transportation that millions of poor Nigerians rely on to get from one place to another. Before the advent of Okada as a means of commercial transportation, vehicles were used for robberies. Yet, nobody deemed it fit to ban vehicles because rich people need vehicles to get around but not Okada. Now something has gone wrong with the Super Eagles and the president decides to ban it. What about the administrators? What about all the big shots who made the series of decisions that resulted in this national embarrassment? When the then NFA decided to play the final game of the 2006 World cup qualification in Kano, a city as hot as Angola and forgetting that all the Nigerian players lived in cold Europe while the Angolans were used to hot weather, what did the political leaders do to the then water engineer who was leading the NFA? The NFA changed its name to NFF as if a change of name is a cure for incompetence. Somebody once said that Tylenol cannot cure wickedness. The cure for wickedness is redemption. The cure for Nigerian football is competent administration devoid of corruption. Period.
